For the second time, SHIWAKUTA participated in the National and International Agriculture Exhibitions held from August 1st to 8th, 2025. SHIWAKUTA’s participation was represented by 15 regions across Tanzania, bringing together 20 farmers from 20 out of the 29 member organizations. These farmers showcased a variety of products grown using agroecological farming methods, including cereals, spices, grapes, cashew nuts, as well as innovative bio-pesticides and organic fertilizers.

The main agenda of SHIWAKUTA during this exhibition was to educate the public and various stakeholders on the importance of using agroecological farming methods in their agricultural activities. SHIWAKUTA’s booth served as a platform for education, awareness, and dialogue on the value of passing down indigenous seeds from one generation to the next, as a way to preserve food heritage and ensure sustainable food and nutrition security.

The conservation and preservation of indigenous seeds for food security and emphasizing their numerous benefits, especially for health, was a key educational message shared with various stakeholders who visited the SHIWAKUTA booth.

Among the key lessons shared by SHIWAKUTA members with visitors at the booth was how smallholder farmers can benefit from their agricultural produce by adding value to their products, thereby doubling their income.

The participation of SHIWAKUTA members in the national and international agricultural exhibitions is not only about showcasing their products, but also serves as an important platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge on how they carry out their farming activities. Through these exhibitions, members have had the opportunity to learn from others, share their successes, and build networks and partnerships with various stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

This platform not only elevates the voices of grassroots farmers but also demonstrates their critical role in building resilient communities and safeguarding biodiversity. Together, we are cultivating hope, strengthening solidarity, and shaping the future of agriculture in Tanzania and beyond.
